James Storrow
Independent scholar, will be speaking about the relationship between James F. Brown and Andrew Jackson Downing, the father of landscape design.
Mr. Storrow will share his research of the freed slave, James F.Brown, and Mr. Brown's diary of forty years.
Susan Mitchell
Environmental educator and organic gardener, will present information on Viginia Verplanck's 1890 garden at Mount Gulian Homestead.
End Refreshments on the rolling lawn with Hudson River view.

Take the Taconic Parkway to Interstate 84 West or
Take the NY State Thruway to Exit 17 Newburgh to I-84 East
Then take Interstate-84 to Exit 11 Wappingers Falls/Beacon
Proceed on Route 9D North 2/10ths of a mile
Make left onto Hudson View Drive, and into the
Hudson View Park Apartments complex, and you
will see the Mount Gulian sign
Make immediate left onto Lamplight Street
(which becomes Sterling Street)
Pass through the garden apartment complex
until the end
Mount Gulian is at end of Sterling Street;
park on the circular driveway.

Art About Water Events Begin
Art About Water 2007, a series of presentations, hands-on activities, music, art and film events for the whole family will be held in Orange County onSaturdays, 15, 22, culminating with a WATER FESTIVAL on the Newburgh Riverfront on Sept. 29.
Presented by The Arts Alliance of the Lower Hudson Valley and sponsored by the Orange County Water Authority, there will be arts and education programs that will focus on protecting and valuing water resources, to inform the public and celebrate all things WATER.

The Art About Water Series Continues
1. Bring A Picnic!!The Art About Water Series continues this week at the Moodna Viaduct in Salisbury Mills on September 22nd from 10am to 1pm. Come enjoy bug stream monitoring at the Moodna Creek with the Hudson Basin River Watch; a guided walk and talk about biodiversity with Tom Durkin; Printing with Materials from Nature , a hands-on art component with Lisa Zukowski; and live music provided by the French acoustic group, L'hiver. 2. Film Series: Tickets for the September 29th Art About Water Film Series can be purchased by contacting the Downing Film Center at 845-561-3686 or The Arts Alliance at 845-534-5284. The film series, curated by Sue Mitchell, will be presenting films about global water issues: The Ecological Footprint, Empty Nets Empty Oceans, Baked Alaska and Thirst. For a full description about the films visit www.TheArtsAlliance.net 6:45 to 9:30pm. Tickets are $10. This event is co-sponsored by the Orange County Water Authority and SB Direct.
3. Art Exhibit: Art About Water...and Water Became Art opens at Painter's in Cornwall-on-Hudson on September 22 and runs through October 22, 2007. Visit www.TheArtsAlliance.net for a list of the artists exhibiting. Directions to Painter's are posted on the website. Painter's is located at 266 Hudson Street.
4. On Saturday, September 29th in the City of Newburgh, the series will culminate with a free Arts and Water Festival on the Newburgh Riverfront. This event is sponsored by the Orange County Water Authority. The Newburgh Festival will include the Sloop Woody Guthrie sailing and educating people on the Hudson River, hands-on science and art demonstration booths, rowing and kayaking demonstrations, art exhibits and live music. This event is free and open to the public. The Arts Alliance is partnering with River Art Walk and the City of Newburgh Arts Commission.
