Education
The Arts are central to all civilizations. They provide a means for personal expression, for conveying ideas and emotions, and for preserving cultural knowledge from generation to generation. The Arts teach us about every historical period through its literature, visual arts, music, dance and drama. The language of the arts cuts through individual differences in cultures, educational backgrounds and personal abilities.
Since 2001, The Arts Alliance’s (TAA) Arts-In-Education Partnership Program has been the foundation that all of our projects have been built upon. This program encourages and supports development and implementation of arts-based activities in both traditional and alternative learning settings such as schools, neighborhoods and community, senior and cultural centers.
TAA Arts-in-Education Partnership Program:
- Artist in Residence is designed to strengthen the core curriculum and bring professional artists to the school classroom to work with students in a particular art form. The artist collaborates with the teacher to plan the sessions and extension activities, often adapting content to topics being studied. Students work directly with the artist to explore an art form. The teacher's extension activities create continuity between sessions.
- Arts in the Curriculum supports collaborations among artists, classroom teachers, and administrators in developing curricula that integrates arts content into the core curriculum subjects, such as: science, history, English, math, foreign language and ELA.
- Arts Out of School presents quality arts education programs for school-aged youth that are at-risk, urban, and/or rural underserved. Activities take place outside of the normal classroom day.
- Arts in the Community supports the interaction between professional artists and the public through workshops, classes and short-term residencies in public facilities such as: community centers, senior centers and libraries.
